Yamaha G2 grand piano with silentsystem 2004

The Yamaha grand piano had a heavy touch, which was not solely due to the friction in the action. The weight of the hammers did not correspond with the lever ratio. To adjust this ratio, the pilot screws—located at the back of the keys—were moved forward, as shown in one of the photos. After making these adjustments the mechanic was regulated, the hammers were reshaped and voiced.

What the customer has to say

Our new Yamaha TransAcoustic grand piano played too heavily, and we weren’t entirely satisfied with its rather harsh sound. Rani has been tuning our piano for years, and now our grand piano as well. She agreed with us and told us that she and her partner could address the issue.
After the action was removed and tested, two options were presented to us to improve both the touch and sound of the piano. We chose the most comprehensive option, which involved the following:
“According to the Precision Touch Design method, the key lever was adjusted by repositioning the pilot points on the key. Then, the key weight was modified with lead and finely regulated. Finally, the hammer heads were shaped, and the hammer head weight was adjusted.”
We were without the action for two weeks, and then two more days were spent at our home to fine-tune and model the hammer heads to perfection.
An impressive job with a beautiful result. My son and I now enjoy the greatly improved touch every day!
